It is hard for me to pick any positives out of Sunday’s game. The realization that we could no longer make the play-offs, plus cold, wet and windy weather, seemed to get everyone down, but then again these exact same scenarios applied to Altea and they still managed to leave Jávea with all 3 points in their pocket.

Jávea youth players experience
CF Villarreal visit
A small group of players and trainers
from CD Jávea, including President Mark Catlin and ‘Football
Base’ Director Paco Pastor, this week travelled to and met
with there counterparts at CF Villarreal.
The trip was organised to further cement growing links with the
club and to organise a series of ‘friendlies’ of different
age groups during this pre-season.
It was also agreed that some of CD Jávea’s better players
would attend pre-season training at Villarreal with a view to the ‘best
of the best’ progressing to the club sometime in the future.
Although the link at this stage is informal CF Villarreal have
been pro-active in trying to assist CD Jávea in their attempt to
make the club a ‘model’ for youth systems in the area.
It was also agreed that the door was open at CF Villarreal for
Jávea
trainers to go to them and experience further training and development.
CD Jávea
announced this week that it was to be the subject of a documentary
to be shown later this year on ‘Sky Sports’ back in
the UK.
Club President Mark Catlin met with a camera and research crew
from the UK satellite company at a hotel in Altea before they
arrived in Jávea to attend the clubs ‘summer soccer
school’ where they talked to parents, kids, and trainers
about their experiences in Spain.
The subject of the documentary is to focus on the effect David
Beckham has had for football generally in Spain and how his arrival
here has raised awareness of the game in Spain back in the UK.
Mark revealed that they will be returning to Spain in September
to finish the documentary where they will also be filming CD Jávea’s
first few games of next season. “There has been a general
raising of the profile and image of CD Jávea over the last
few years and hopefully this documentary will further raise that
influence, especially back in the UK. I think the biggest thrill
was for the kids attending the summer soccer school, some of them
were even interviewed, and Sky filmed many of them in training.”
It is believed the show will go out ‘on air’ on 4 separate
occasions, in a half our slots before ‘La Liga’ during
October.
CD Jávea this week
announced that the first confirmed ‘friendly’ of
2007/8 will take place at home, This Saturday, August 4th at
20.00 hours against Gandia: FREE ENTRY!
The ‘quiet’ revolution taking place
at CD Jávea has continued to attract many people to the
club during the last few weeks.
The club have reported that socio membership
applications, now only €100, have been ‘substantial’ and
applications into the kids youth system was well up on previous
seasons.
Club President Mark Catlin expressed how pleased
he was with how preparations were going for the 2007/8 season. “There
is, without doubt, a fantastic atmosphere now developing at the
club with many players returning to us having gone to other clubs
in previous seasons. This is not just limited to senior players,
but to players of all ages and at all levels. The mentality seems
to have changed and everyone now seems to be helping each other
at CD Jávea. My phone is going almost all day now with people
interested in becoming a part of what we are trying to achieve
here. I want CD Jávea to be a club where all of us that
are a part of it are proud to wear its colours and the club IS
the people that are a part of it, socios, players and parents.”
Application forms for the youth teams and socio
memberships can be obtained by calling 901 888 666 or emailing mark@cdjavea.com
Following the
announcement that Paco Pastor is to become the clubs new ‘Cantera’ chief,
CD Jávea have wasted no time in following this up with the
announcement that Miguel Angel Diestro is to become ‘Secretario
Tecnico’, and Kenny Brown the first team trainer.
Miguel Angel was chosen as ‘Secretario Tecnico’ due
to his many contacts with players throughout the region and his
coaching skills which will be put to good use in assisting Kenny
Brown as he embarks on his first season as a Manager in Spain.
The club have already secured the services of 14 players for
next season, holding 4 positions back for pre-season trialists
that will be taking part in training leading up to the clubs first
league game starting in September.
“I am very excited about this season at the club. With
the election of a new President, and new faces coming into the
club as a result, there is a fresh new feeling sweeping through
CD Jávea. Many favourites from previous years are returning
such as Ruben Pla and Puncho, plus we have managed to secure almost
all the players we wanted from last season. I have played and coached
at all levels in the UK but I have been very impressed with the
work and commitment shown by Miguel Angel, he is young, enthusiastic,
and is desperate to achieve his football ambitions with us at CD
Jávea.” Commented Kenny Brown.
In addition to Puncho and Ruben Pla, CD Jávea have confirmed
the following have already signed for the club:
ORTOLA (CD JÁVEA)
JULIO IBORRA (CD JÁVEA)
ALEX CUADRADO (CD JÁVEA)
CARLO (CD JÁVEA)
JOSE LUIS BISQUERT (CD JÁVEA)
JORGE (ALICANTE ‘B’)
BARRACHINA (EMFU L'ALCUDIA)
JOSE LUIS (ALACUAS)
ROBERTO AÑON (BENIFAIO)
JAVI (JAVEA)
JUANMA (CD JÁVEA)
PUNCHO (POLOP)
JUANITO (VILAJOIOSA)
SERGIO PEDRAZ PEDROSA ‘CHILI’ (AT. TERESIANO)
Application forms for 2007/8 Youth Teams Now Available!
CD
Jávea this week announced that 'Paco' Pastor will be running
the clubs youth section for the 2007/8 season, with ultimate
responsibility for all youth teams from Juvenil (under 18's),
to Pre-Benjamin (under 7's).
There was several candidates put forward for the position,
including applicants that had coached in the 'cantera' last season,
but Paco impressed the club with his projects and plans for driving
the club forward over the next 4 years.
New President Mark Catlin has always stressed that he believes
the successful future of the club will depend on how well the
club's academy is run, and the job Paco has is possibly the most
important position at the club.
"We had other very good candidates that were keen on the
job but ultimately it came down to 2 things, Paco is a school
'professor' and finishes work at 1PM so has the time needed to
fulfil this important role. Secondly he wants a 'structured'
academy, with the complete development of the kids as part of
his plan. With Paco you will not simply get a training session
from the trainers that finishes and the kids are sent home, he
wants an evaluation of the kids after each session with everything
noted such as timekeeping, discipline, attitude and overall behaviour,
then every 3 months the parents will be invited to a meeting
with the trainer to talk over there 'report'. In addition our
trainers will undergo constant checks and evaluations to make
sure that THEY reach the standard required
by the club." President Mark Catlin
At the first board meeting of the new 'Junta Directiva' for CD
Jávea, Mike Smith was elected as new membership secretary,
and will be responsible for growing the 'socio' membership of the
club.
Immediately the board have voted to cut the cost of membership
for the 2007/8 season to just €100, this entitles the card
holder and his family (wife and kids under 16), free entry to all
the clubs home games, PLUS a voice at the AGM, and the chance to
vote on issues affecting the club in the future. OAP'S will benefit
from paying just €30 for the season.
“If you are a supporter of the club then this is a fantastic
way to show your loyalty PLUS benefit
from free entry to home games for the 2007/8 season.
To a large degree, the success of the club for the coming season
depends on the finances it is able to raise in the next few weeks
to attract the best players to the club, and every person that
purchases a 'socio' membership will be helping CD Jávea
to compete with its rivals for the 2007/8 season. At the moment
we have around 140 ‘socios’, but if we can expand this
to around 500 then we have a fantastic base to grow our club,
both in terms of support and financially, and this will help us
achieve our aim of promotion during the next 4 years.
I urge all supporters of CD Jávea that want to help us
achieve our goals to become a 'socio' as soon as possible!" President
Mark Catlin
Membership forms for the 2007/8 season are available by telephoning
or emailing either Mark Catlin or Mike Smith on the contact details
given below.
CD Jávea this week elected
Mark Catlin as President to serve a minimum 4 year term.
In an emotional and sometimes stormy ‘asamblea’, Mark
was elected on a vote of 76 to 8.
Speaking before the vote to the gathered ‘socios’ Mark
explained that what the club needs at the moment is stability and
he was not going to make any rash promises about how well the club
was going to do next season.
Much bad blood had been built up in the club during the previous
4 years which hopefully now will be buried as the new President
looks to all members to participate in helping push the club forward.
“I finished the meeting thanking the members for their
confidence and pledging to win over the eight that voted against
me!” commented Mark. “The club cannot go on as it is
and we have to make a clean start as from today. I have been involved
on the board now for 2 years and have a good idea of what is needed
to turn things around, but it will not be easy and difficult decisions
will have to be made. I cannot, and would not, make predictions
about how well we are going to do on the pitch next season, but
what I will promise is that CD Jávea will be professionally
run, disciplined, and will become a club that many other football
clubs in this area will become envious of.”
The new President immediately announced that socio membership
will be cut to just €100 for next season. “A socio membership
is a fantastic way to show you support the club. For just €100
you get free access for yourself and your family to all of next
seasons home games PLUS you become an official member of the club
and have additional rights such as voting at AGM’s.”
West Ham United’s all-conquering under 14 team arrive
in Jávea this Thursday (17th May) to take part in 2 friendlies
arranged by CD Jávea football club.
The first will be at 18.00 hours on Friday
18th May against
CD Jávea’s own league winners, and then on Saturday
19th May at 18.00 hours against a team from Villarreal. Both
games are free entry and everyone is welcome to attend.
CD Jávea have been keen to develop ‘links’ with
teams from outside of Spain and this is a further advancement
of that policy. It is hoped that although initially youth teams
are ‘testing the water’ for the Premiership clubs
this will result at some stage in the senior teams coming to
Jávea and further strengthening ties with the club.
MANCHESTERCITY CONFIRM
TOURNAMENT PARTICIPATION!
Manchester City football club have confirmed that for the second
year running they will be taking part in the end of season ‘youth’ tournament
to be held on May 26th.
Last year Manchester City defeated Valencia in the final on
penalties and CD Jávea are hoping that event this year will be as
equally well supported.
In addition to CD Jávea, Alicante have also accepted an
invitation to attend. It is believed that Villareal are to fill
the 4th spot but as of today the club are awaiting confirmation
of this.
Last seasons victorious captain was one Michael Johnson who
this season went on to establish himself as a regular in the
Manchester City first team and is already being touted as a possible
future England International.
CD Jávea Director of football, Kenny Brown, this week announced
that following the success of its summer soccer school at the start
of the season, the club will be running an Easter football camp.
“The summer school at the start of the season was a fantastic
success and I am sure that both the kids and coaches will benefit
as much from this camp as the one that we laid on during the summer.
I will be in attendance every day and we are lucky to have other
fantastic coaches that will, I am sure, make this camp even more
successful than the last one that we put on.”
The dates for the ‘school’ are to be 5/6/9/10/11/12
of April (6 days, 9.30am to12 midday) and it is understood that
this will be strictly limited to a maximum of 60 kids from ages
7-16.
Places are filling up fast so anyone interested in there kid taking
part should contact Mark Catlin on 901 888 666 or email him at mark@cdjavea.com
CD
Jávea announce loan signing of Salu from FC Torrevieja September 25, 2006
CD Jávea Director of football Kenny Brown has announced
that CD Jávea have completed the season long loan signing
of young striker ‘Salu’ from FC Torrevieja.
Kenny worked with Salu previously in the Torre ‘B’
team before leaving to take up his position in Jávea. “I
have long been an admirer of Salu, he is only 19 years old and I
wanted to have signed him before the season started but he chose
to sign for his (local) Torrevieja team. When it became clear the
injury to our striker Raul was serious we contacted Torrevieja about
our problem and they offered us as much support as was possible.
When I asked about Salu in particular the response was positive
and I would like to thank Pedro Cordero, Eddie Cagigao, Tuto, and
Andy Hermida for making this happen so quickly, CD Jávea
will not forget this. Salu has not really featured for Torrevieja
this season so obviously Torre hope that he will benefit from playing
regular first team football with us.”
CD
JÁVEA ANNOUNCE MAJOR SPONSORSHIP DEAL
WITH ‘TELITEC’ August 21, 2006
CD Jávea this week announced that its sponsors for the first
team this coming season would be wireless internet connections company,
‘Telitec’.
Club President, Juanjose Buigues Ortola, looked forward
to developing a relationship with a company that, like the club,
was looking to develop itself over the coming years.
“This is a fantastic deal for the club, Telitec
is a developing company and we hope that as the company grows they
will become further involved with us. All our sponsors are important
to us, but the first team sponsor is always ‘the big one’.
Telitec has signed a one year deal but we hope that as Telitec grows
it will grow with us, and we will of course work to promote the
company wherever possible.”
Tony Hartley, Sales Director of Telitec, spoke of
his confidence in the club and the direction it is taking. “Our
central operations at present are based in and around the Jávea
area but as the club plays all along the Costa Blanca it was a natural
choice for us to support the local club as it plays in almost all
of the areas that we hope to be covered by our service over the
coming year. I am a supporter anyway, so to be able to now travel
and watch CD Jávea as main sponsor will be a massive thrill
for me personally and many of the staff who already support the
club.”
It is understood that last seasons sponsors ‘Go
Insure It’ will remain heavily involved with the club, sponsoring
one of its youth academy teams, and remaining closely linked with
CD Jávea during this coming year.
EX-PARIS
ST. GERMAIN STAR SIGNS FOR CD JÁVEA August 7, 2006
CD Jávea this
week added yet another ‘big name’ star to it’s
playing staff. ‘Yann’ (Xoan André Grivell Castell)
put pen to paper and joined what is looking more and more like a
team that can compete with the best the Preferente league can offer
this season.
Club President, Juanjose Buigues Ortola, met with
Yann along with Kenny Brown and Mark Catlin on Friday (4th August)
in an effort to secure him and it seems that the long hours of talks
convincing him to sign was worth it.
President ‘Juanjose’ praised Alberto,
the manager, for his role in the signing. “Yann, along with
Raúl, are now the icing on the cake as far as signings for
us this season. Yann initially had reservations about dropping down
the leagues to play for us, but because he was convinced of our
ambition, and his confidence in Alberto and Kenny, the signing became
possible. Players are now coming here because they know that we
have the right structures and management in place, and are turning
down big offers from other clubs because they want to play for us.
This means everything to me, players wanting to play for CD Jávea,
and not just for the money.”
It is believed that Yann turned down a ‘big
money’ offer from another well known Costa Blanca club moments
before he signed, even though the President of this club personally
intervened to try to make him change his mind.
CD Jávea announced
today that they have finally manager to secure the services of striker
Raúl Ibáñez for the 2006/7 season.
Raúl has had a fantastic career, playing for
teams that include Valencia and Elche.
Mark Catlin, Commercial Director of the club expressed
his delight at the strikers signing for CD Jávea. “This
is in my opinion one of the most important signings that we have
ever made at the club. Alberto wanted him and as a club we came
together to make this happen. Juanjose Buigues Ortola, Myself, Alberto,
and Kenny Brown, in fact everyone at the club, worked to ensure
that he came to us. I am also overjoyed with Raúl himself.
He had other offers, nearer to where he lives for more money, but
he chose us. This is a very special club and personally I would
love to see Raúl here for many years to come, guiding our
younger players and being someone the rest of the team look up to.
We have a good, young team, and mixed with the 5 or 6 experienced
players we now have we will be very competitive this season. Raúl
has the opportunity to help us achieve our goals and I hope that
this will prove to be a huge motivating factor for him during his
time at CD Jávea.”
It is also believed that CD Jávea have another
‘big’ signing in the pipeline as they enter a month
of pre-season training before the big kick-off on September 3rd.
CD Jávea this
week completed the signings of a further 6 players for the 2006/7
season.
Re-signing from last season, young right back Julio
Ivorra 22, striker Salva Costa 23, goalkeeper Aurelio 25, and central
defender Juanjose Villamayor 29.
New signing Sergi, plus young British talent George
Jefry, also put pen to paper and joined the array of talent now
at the club. As we go to press we are waiting for further details
of these players.
Director of Football Kenny Brown was full of praise
for the team that Manager Alberto and Secretario Tecnico, Vicente
Blanes, has assembled for the 2006/7 campaign. “So far we
have secured the services of all the players that we wanted bar
one, Chamorro. Chamo is a fantastic player and we are sad to lose
him to, we believe, La Nucia. We have stuck to our guns economically
and although he wanted to stay with us the financial offer from
La Nucia was just too great for him to turn down. Myself, the club,
and Alberto, wishes him well and you never know we might one day
see him back wearing the red and white colours he graced so well
for us at CD Jávea.”
Kenny also revealed that two key signings were hanging
in the balance. “We have two ‘star’ players contemplating
joining us that are touch and go. Both have offers on the table
from second division teams that are offering far more money than
us, but they are excited by what we are doing here and are keen
to work with Alberto. We have done all that we can to convince them
of our plans and now we have to just hope that their ambition overrides
the financial offers from other clubs.”
CD
Jávea Announce Pre-Season Friendlies July 24, 2006
CD Jávea Director
of football Kenny Brown this week announced the clubs pre-season
friendly list:
Saturday 05/08/06: 8pm CD Javea vs San Marcelino,
Jávea Municipal stadium.
Wednesday 09/08/06: 8pm CD Javea vs Benidorm CD,
Jávea Municipal stadium.
Friday 18/08/06: (time to be confirmed) Guadassuar
CF vs CD Javea, Guadassuar stadium.
Saturday 19/08/06: 8pm CD Javea vs UD Oliva, Jávea
Municipal stadium.
Wednesday 23/08/06: 8pm CE Alberic vs CD Javea,
Alberic Stadium.
“I advise all supporters to regularly check www.cdjavea.com
or www.javeamigos.com to confirm if there are any changes to the
programme, plus we are looking at possible one or two games that
may be arranged at short notice.”
CD Jávea this
week completed the signings of three new players for the 2006/7
season. Ruben Galera “RUBEN” 22 from
CF Gandia. Juan Manuel Soccedd Jaime “JUANMA”
31 from Calpe CF. Also played for UD Benissa and CF Gandia. Alberto
Fernandez Gomez “ALBERTO” 21 has played for
CD Denia and Ondarense CF. In addition to theses 3 ‘new’
players, young Jávea defender Julio Ivorra
committed to another season with the ‘roljiblancos’.
Coach Alberto Aroijo, technical secretary Vicent
Blanes, and Director of football Kenny Brown, have all been working
hard behind the scenes these last few months in trying to assemble
a team that has a mixture of both youth and experience for the coming
season, while at the same time working within a budget that is affordable
to the club. Their patience and hard work now appears to be paying
dividends as quality players that WANT to play for the club are
now joining the CD Jávea ranks, something Kenny Brown was
quick to explain. “Obviously money comes into it when a player
decides to play for a club, but a player has to be happy, and for
the sake of a few hundred Euros a month I know that I would rather
be playing in front of 800 people a week, than one man and his dog.
Also the set up here is fantastic and with our new pitch, club spirit,
young ambitious manager, I know where I would want to play!”
Promising young footballing
sensation, ‘Dino’ Climent Llobell this week put pen
to paper and became new Director of Football, Kenny Brown’s
first signing since taking over his position. “This was an
important signing for us. Dino is young, from Jávea, and
players such as him are the future of our club. He is only 20 years
old and has tremendous pace and talent.
The biggest part of my job will be to work with Manager
Alberto in now developing this young talent within our club so that
Alberto has a great squad of players to choose from. The club have
taken the decision to work to a point where the majority of our
squad will, in the future, originate from the Jávea area,
this is why our youth academy and the appointment of Mitgeta to
run this academy was so important to us. Dino is a fantastic lad
and has impressed me greatly since his arrival, he just wants to
play football for CD Jávea, and these are the type of players
we want at the club in the future.”
Kenny has been working behind the scenes with Manager
Alberto and technical secretary Vicente Blanes in structuring the
team for next season. It is believed that during next week full
details of the team for next season will be released as pre-season
training approaches.
CD
JÁVEA 2006/7 SOCCER SEASON KICKS OFF! July 10, 2006
CD Jávea kicked
off the new football season in style this week with the opening
week of its fantastic summer soccer school.
New CD Jávea ‘Director of Football’
Kenny Brown started proceedings by stressing that although the emphasis
would be on fun, the point of the training school was to develop
talent and hopefully spot some stars of the future.
Kenny
commented “over the next six weeks it gives me an ideal opportunity
to work both with the kids and trainers and we hope that the school
is beneficial both to us in developing talent, and the kids in having
a great time, while learning from the talented coaches that are
running each age group of the school. Juan Ivars ‘Mitgeta’,
our new youth director, is assisting and this also gives us a great
opportunity to work together. I have seen what he has achieved at
other clubs and his project for the future of our youth academy
is as good as I have seen anywhere. I must stress though that the
school is not just for kids of Jávea, anyone from any area
who wants to progress and benefit from what we are doing is more
than welcome to contact us and attend.”
The
summer soccer school will be running from July 10th for 3 weeks,
there is then a one week gap followed by a further three weeks starting
August 7th. Kids of all abilities and talents are welcome and further
details are available by contacting Mark Catlin on 901 888 666 or
favourably full details are available via the CD Jávea website,

JUAN
IVARS ‘MITGETA’ APPOINTED CD JÁVEA CANTERA BOSS June 25, 2006
CD Jávea took
another giant step towards their goal of having the best Cantera
(Youth Academy) north of Alicante and south of Valencia, when they
this week announced the arrival of former manager ‘Mitgeta’
to oversee the clubs youth development policy.
Club President Juanjose Buigues Ortola made the announcement
at the clubs weekly committee meeting. “Our policy for the
future will be to place more emphasis on the development of talent
from within the area of Jávea. To achieve this we need strong
professional football staff such as Mitgeta who not only command
respect but also have the necessary experience to develop not only
the players but our coaches as well. Our kids will only ever be
as good as the coaches that are coaching them and this is a key
area that Mitgeta will be working on from this moment”
This has been a whirlwind month for CD Jávea,
announcing the appointments of Alberto as first team boss, Kenny
Brown as Director of football, and now Mitgeta as head of the Cantera.
Kenny Brown expressed his delight at securing the services of Mitgeta.
“For me this appointment was crucial as the two people I will
be working with on almost a daily basis are the First team manager
and head of the Cantera, on the footballing front these two are
crucial to our future success and in Alberto and Mitgeta the senior
and youth sections are now in good hands.”
ALBERTO
AGREES NEW DEAL WITH CD JÁVEA! June 19, 2006
Alberto Araujo Corvera
finally put pen to paper this week, signing a new contract keeping
him at the club for next season.
President Juanjose Buigues Ortola expressed his delight
at securing the promising young Manager’s services next term.
“This is yet more fantastic news for the Club. Alberto is
young, bright, dynamic, and exactly what the club needs to build
on for future years. Part of the reason he signed was that he knew
Kenny Brown was coming to the club; likewise, Kenny Browns decision
was influenced because he was excited to be working with such a
young talent as Alberto. In previous years at CD Jávea the
first team manager has only been interested in the first team, but
Alberto is keen to help at the club in any aspect, including developing
the kids, and this is important to our future. We want to develop
an atmosphere where everyone feels part of what is happening, from
the youngest kids through to the adult first team, we are ALL part
of CD Jávea. Football is football, and I like Alberto will
not be making any promises about how well we are going to do this
season, but what I can promise is that the WHOLE club will be moving
in the right direction from now on.”
New club Director of football, Kenny Brown, became
a fan of Alberto after just one meeting. “Luckily in my life
I have been involved with some great footballers and managers and
after just one meeting I was impressed with Alberto. He is highly
ambitious, has enormous enthusiasm, and is just the sort of person
that we need to help take the club to the next level. I watched
the last few games of the season, and also his training sessions,
and was very impressed not just with his training but his tactical
awareness as well. As Director of football I am here for him, 24
hours a day, 7 days a week, and I hope that with my experience this
will prove to be of use to Alberto as the season progresses.”
CD
JÁVEA ANNOUNCE KENNY BROWN AS NEW ‘DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL’
June 12, 2006
CD
Jávea this week announced that Kenny Brown was taking over
as the clubs ‘Director of Football’. Kenny, 38, has
had a distinguished football career playing for, amongst others,
West Ham United, Birmingham City, and Crystal Palace. As manager
he guided Barry Town into the Champions League and was named ‘manager
of the year’ for Wales 2 years in succession before moving
to Spain to continue his playing career with FC Torrevieja. Kenny
also holds the prestigious UEFA ‘A’ coaching license,
and comes from a family with pure football pedigree, his father
played in the successful West ham team of the 60’s alongside
such greats as Bobby Moore and Geoff Hurst, before going on to manage
such clubs as Norwich City.
Club Director Mark Catlin expressed his delight at
Kenny’s appointment. “Kenny will be given complete control
of all football matters at the club, this is not a part time appointment
but a full time job in which we hope Kenny will completely restructure
the club from top to bottom. In any business the most important
person is the man at the top, and in Kenny we have chosen well.
The days of carpenters, car mechanics, or estate agents running
football activities have gone. The club shares my vision of where
we want the club to go and they have realised that to achieve this
we needed to bring someone of Kenny’s quality in, success
might not happen overnight but the long term strategy is spot on.
This is a fantastic football club and not only do we now have some
of the best facilities in the area, we now also have the best quality
staff.”
Kenny
himself expressed his delight at signing for the ‘rojiblancos’.
“I am delighted to be coming to a club such as CD Jávea.
I spent about a month deciding whether to sign, having not long
moved to Spain this would be another upheaval for me and the family,
but having spent time here in Jávea I know that this is the
club for me. I have been extremely impressed with the set-up here,
the facilities, the coaching staff, the directors, all played a
part in making my mind up. I would never say that we are going to
achieve X. Y, or Z this season, but what I can promise is that I
will give 100% and believe that with my experience I can take the
club up to the next level it is so desperate to achieve.”

Jávea Confirm Valencia President Meeting April 17, 2006
CD
Jávea President, Juanjose Buigues Ortola, and club Comercial
Director Mark Catlin, this week confirmed that a meeting had taken
place between them and Valencia football club President Juan Soler.
The three met in Jávea on Friday night where Valencia C.F
confirmed that they will be sending a team to take part in next
months youth tournament in Jávea along with Hercules from
Alicante and Manchester City.
Valencia C.F President Juan Soler also confirmed that depending
upon Champions leagues commitments Valencia would be willing to
send a team to take part in a pre-season friendly against CD Jávea.
Mark Catlin commented “We talked for about 2 hours, the
first hour being about the tournament, then an hour about football
in the region generally. We spent time explaining the goals we had
at the club and he offered us any assistance he could provide. We
are now on course to achieve our dream of making Jávea the
centre of excellence for football south of Valencia and north of
Alicante. We have excellent contacts at Manchester City, West Ham,
Villareal and now Valencia. Each of these clubs are now at our disposal
if we have promising youngsters that could benefit from either trips
to train with them, or trainers from these clubs coming here to
work with us. The next part of the jigsaw is to next season restructure
our youth teams from top to bottom. We have already employed Eduard
Briones to assist us as coordinator and his professionalism is already
paying dividends, we are also in talks with a top ex-pro and if
this is successful I believe the foundations will then be in place
to take our club on to another level.”
Next months one day tournament on May 27th is already shaping
up to be one of the biggest sporting events ever held in Jávea.
Many famous footballers, Club Presidents from Valencia, Hercules,
Manchester City, and countless Ex-Pros have already confirmed there
intention to attend the event.
CD JAVEA
STILL UPBEAT DESPITE PITCH SETBACK July 31, 2005
CD Jávea Commercial Director
Mark Catlin was still upbeat this week despite the club having its
first setback since he took over the role. At the second meeting of
the JAVEAMIGOS International Peña (the official supporters
club) held on Thursday (28th) it was announced that in all probability
the pitch would not be ready for the first game of the season.
“I am very disappointed that it looks as though the pitch
will not be ready for the start of the new season though I have
to admit that I have seen this coming for a while,” said Mark.
“In Jávea the ground and facilities of the club are
owned by the council and they informed us that work on a new astroturf
pitch and stadium renovation would begin in June. By July nothing
had happened and now I am told the beginning of August!”
Mark attended a special meeting between the football club, the
council, and the developers to discuss concerns about the lack of
activity at the stadium and was assured that the work would take
no longer than six weeks. However this is likely to mean that the
ground will be unavailable for the start of the season.
“Our options are to play these at either Gata de Gorgos or
Pedreguer,” admitted Mark. “My preferred option, and
the one agreed to by the Club President, is to ask the Presidents
of the opposing clubs to ‘switch’ fixtures, so we play
our first four games ‘away’ but do not lose out on any
‘home’ games. This I believe is a strong possibility
but until we know who our games are against (the fixtures have not
yet been released) we cannot contact the opposing Presidents. What
I can assure supporters is that if they want to go to a game deemed
as ‘home’ but we have to play this at Gata or Pedreguer,
then the club will make free arrangements for them to get to the
game.”
Acting JAVEAMIGOS President Mike Smith also expressed concern at
the lack of information from the club about the new players at the
football club but revealed this had now been remedied.
“After discussions with the football club and midfielder
Jeff MacLean it has been agreed that Jeff will act as a ‘bridge’
between the players and supporters, enabling the supporters to have
a direct route to the players and letting the feelings of both groups
to be known to each other. This is great news and will allow the
peña to really feel like an integral part of the future of
CD Jávea.”

CD Javea revealed that this could
be a major week in the clubs history. The club hope that 2 projects
that have been nurtured over the past few months could eventually
be concluded in the next few days. Club Commercial Director Mark Catlin
was anxious not to over elaborate as neither deal had yet been concluded,
but did explain why they were so important for the Club. “CD
Javea have been in negotiations with a potential major sponsor for
about 10 weeks and we are at the point where the contract is about
to be signed. This company is hoping to head its target market in
Spain as a new venture, but is backed by a UK household name. The
initial deal is for a year but with various options for future year’s
dependant upon the success of both the Club and the company. The potential
sponsor is a great company with a great product and that has been
the driving force in what we want to achieve at CD Javea. We only
want to work with companies with the right pedigree and ambition and
this company more than justifies these conditions.”
Mark Catlin also spoke of a possible new signing at the club. “About
8 weeks ago I was contacted by a former youth International from another
country in Europe that had now moved into the area. This player at
18 signed for one of the most prestigious clubs in the World but unfortunately
suffered a terrible injury that forced him out of the game for some
time. He is now back to full fitness and wants to launch his career
again. He moved to the area to be with his girlfriend and he is still
only 22. He met with myself and Jeff MacLean about 6 weeks ago and
we told him what we are going to achieve at CD Javea. We also made
him aware that we could not match offers he had received from other
clubs at this time. That was the last time I spoke to him and I believed
he had signed for one of the other teams that was after his services,
but then out of the blue he contacted me and has asked to train with
us. I have no control over who the club signs but if he is as good
as his CV then this could be another major turning point for the club.”

SELECT JAVEA YOUTH TEAM SCORES IN ‘MINI WORLD
CUP’ July 15,2005
A selection of players entering under
the team name of Javea Amigos, at ages 9 and 10, (Benjamin age group
in Spain) this week took part in the ‘Costa Blanca Cup’.
Players were drawn from a number of clubs, including FC Amigos, Premier
soccer Academy, and CD Javea. The coaches from FC Amigos, Gary Looker
and Tony Knight plus Jeff MacLean from the Premier Soccer Academy
ensured the team had the best chance possible in making an impact
at the tournament. This cup is THE premier football tournament for
youth and is commonly referred to as the ‘mini World cup’.
Over 200 clubs took part from countries such as the USA, Russia, Venezuela,
Iceland, Saudi Arabia etc.
The first round was a league structure with Javea playing 3 other
teams, Altea, Benidorm, and a select team from Venezuela (Caracus).
Javea’s first game against a strong team from Venezuela was
sadly lost 6-1, and although the team did not perform as well as it
should, the result was never in question. Javea returned to winning
ways in the second game, completing a 7-1 victory over local rivals
Altea. The result of this game after about 5 minutes was never in
any doubt and Javea could have won by a far bigger margin.
The last game for Javea was a ‘must win’ game against
a strong team from Benidorm, and although Javea battled hard they
just did not have the firepower to break down a strong Benidorm defence.
Despite an even game Javea had to commit players for the win and Benidorm
came out on top 3-1 winners, and so progressed through to the play-offs
to fight another day with Caracus from Venezuela.
Although Javea did not progress beyond the group stages the disappointed
coaches conceded that the tournament had been a great experience for
players, coaches, and the supporters of Javea that travelled to the
games daily. Coach Gary Looker summed up the feelings of everyone,
“We came here believing we had a realistic chance of at least
making the semi-finals but on the day we were just not quite good
enough. Although we did not perform to the best of our abilities I
think the standard was that good we would have struggled to make the
semis even if we had been 100%. We possibly lacked the final killer
ball that could have made the difference to us. When the other team
were in good positions we were punished, but when we had a good opportunity
we never punished the opposition”. Local CD Javea goalkeeper
Antonio Sivera was named as Javea’s player of the tournament,
and the coaches and players all deserve a special mention for the
professional way in which they conducted themselves throughout the
three days and the weeks of training leading up to the event.
